2022 NFL Power Rankings – Week 4

Hello all. Sorry it has been slow going here on the website lately. I have been pushing through some physical and mental issues. Also, dealing with Hurricane Ian here in Central Florida (the family is totally fine). I am going to try to get back on things!

Starting with Week Four Power Rankings. I have been doing power rankings off-site since the beginning of the season, but did not post them. I will try to start now. For this week I am just going to make some general comments. If I can keep this up during the following weeks, I will talk about the most recent games and developments.

Rank Prev. Team Record Comments
1 5 960 3-0 Other than a flurry of a late comeback attempt by the Lions, Philadelphia has yet to be tested this year. They are rolling on all cylinders.
2 1 n0fd1z6xmhigb0eej3323ebwq 2-1 The Bills were wrecked by injuries but still should be sitting at 3-0. They get the benefit of the doubt, and are still the AFC’s best.
3 8 dcy03myfhffbki5d7il3 2-1 Just like 2021, Green Bay decided to take week one off, and has gotten right back to their winning ways since then.
4 2 857 2-1 The Chiefs were rolling offensively the first two weeks of the season. The Colts just got shut out by Jacksonville. Sometimes great teams sleepwalk and lose as a result. They will be fine.
5 9 15073062018 3-0 Should Miami actually be 1-2? Maybe, but that does not matter. Points gained in the fourth quarter matter just as much as the first three. If the Dolphins can get through Cincinnati at 4-0 the schedule really eases up.
6 6 318 2-1 Lamar Jackson is back to his 2019 MVP form, and he will have to be, because the defense cannot seem to stop anyone.
7 3 17683632020 2-1 Thankfully for Tampa fans, the defense has been the NFL’s best. It needs to be, because the offense has been ravaged by injuries, suspensions and ineffectiveness.
8 7 594183342020 2-1 The Rams should have no problem winning a very bad division, but something just seems off. This is not the same Rams team as 2021.
9 15 15988562013 2-1 The Jacksonville Jaguars in the top ten? Yes. Time to pay attention. Trevor Lawrence looks like a completely new quarterback and the defense is ferocious. Really capitalizes how much of a disaster Urban Meyer was.
10 10 17227042013 2-1 The Vikings are the definition of slightly above average. Kirk Cousins will put up numbers during Sunday 1:00 pm games, and there is enough skill talent to win most weeks against lesser opponents.
11 18 7855_cleveland_browns-primary-2015 2-1 The schedule makers did Cleveland some favors by scheduling really bad opponents at the start of the season. The Browns need to hang on until Deshaun Watson comes back in December, and have managed to do that thus far.
12 20 406 2-1 I am going to say the same thing about this glut of 2-1 teams. Dallas does not look great, but they are doing enough to win. Fortunately, Cooper Rush has been a solid fill-in for the always injured Dak Prescott.
13 4 644616602020 1-2 I cut the Chargers some slack after a tough Week 2 loss to Kansas City, but getting mauled by Jacksonville is harder to forgive. Injuries or not, this looks like it could be another season of wasted talent and opportunity for my pre-season Super Bowl pick.
14 19 15420492021 1-2 I did not pick the Bengals to get back to the playoffs, but they’re still in contention. The team could easily be 3-0 if some mistakes were not made.
15 12 919 2-1 The Giants are still a huge work in progress, especially along the offensive line, but Brian Daboll has made a huge difference. They will compete in every game and could end up with a .500 or so record, which would be great first step.
16 16 9ebzja2zfeigaziee8y605aqp 2-1 Other than the Chicago Bears (LOL), Denver is definitely the worst 2-1 team in football right now. What is up with the offense? Is Russell Wilson toast? Is the coach a complete doofus or only partially?
17 11 907 1-2 Jameis Winston leads the NFL in interceptions. The NFL world has re-balanced itself.
18 17 17013982017 1-2 The Lions are second in the NFL in points scored and last in the NFL in points allowed. If nothing else, start your fantasy players for both teams every Detroit game.
19 14 17994552009 1-2 As a Dolphins fan I am hoping San Francisco loses out so Miami can get a good draft pick, but they will probably fall into the playoffs at a boring 9-8 and run off a couple playoff wins.
20 13 970 1-2 Mitchell Trubiskly has been terrible. If head coach Mike Tomlin stubbornly sticks to his plan of sitting Kenny Pickett the entire year, the front office should seriously look into his future. That is a fireable offense.
21 21 y71myf8mlwlk8lbgagh3fd5e0 1-2 The Patriots did not bother to fill Josh McDaniels spot on the coaching staff, and Josh McDaniels did not bother to start coaching in Las Vegas. Perhaps they are just keeping the spot warm for him?
22 22 8521_las_vegas_raiders-primary-20201 0-3 Not all is lost for the Raiders yet. They have been in position to win every game they have played. I just have serious doubts that Josh McDaneils is, or ever will be, the answer.
23 26 f1wggq2k8ql88fe33jzhw641u 1-2 The Panthers are not good, but they have been better than expected. Baker Mayfield gives Carolina a chance to be competitive in every game, but he probably will not be good enough to save Matt Rhule’s job.
24 27 364 2-1 The Bears have the same record as the Buffalo Bills. Let that sink in. I genuinely think Justin Fields has the ability to be a good quarterback in the NFL, but he is a case study of not drafting a quarterback until you can put him in at least a decent position to succeed.
25 29 593 1-1-1 From getting blasted by the Jaguars to upsetting the Chiefs. The NFL is a weird sport. Matt Ryan is still toast. I wonder what has-been castoff will be starting games for Indianapolis in 2023.
26 25 kwth8f1cfa2sch5xhjjfaof90 1-2 Remember when the Cardinals started the 2021 season 8-0? It’s been a quick fall from grace since then. Kyler Murray got his paycheck, now it is time for him to elevate the team around him.
27 30 1053 1-2 How crazy was 2021? Not only did we have to suffer through a global pandemic, but the Tennessee Titans actually had the best record in the AFC. I picked them to fall off horribly, and it is one prediction I actually nailed.
28 24 pfiobtreaq7j0pzvadktsc6jv 1-2 Somehow Geno Smith is not the worst starting quarterback in the NFL. Other than that, there is not much to talk about positively when it comes to the Seahawks. They are bad.
29 31 299 1-2 The Falcons have been extremely competitive so far this season, which is good news for fans of the coaching staff. Unfortunately, the talent level is just too low to win many games.
30 23 683260482022 1-2 Washington is terrible. If Carson Wentz starts 70% of his games, the Commanders have to send a second round pick to Indianapolis. If the team keeps losing, expect a benching, and more losses to follow.
31 32 570 0-2-1 Houston continues to play hard, but there is just enough talent on the roster to win many games. Lovie Smith has this team ready to compete, however.
32 28 15291162019 1-2 The Jets managed to steal a win during Week 2, but this team remains a mess. You could give this team the top ten picks in the 2023 draft. They would still be terrible.
