Totally pointless power rankings, week 5 edition. Enjoy!
Rank | Prev. | Team | Record | Comments |
---|---|---|---|---|
1 | 1 | ![]() |
4-0 | The Eagles have not had the toughest schedule thus far, but that is not their fault. Looking ahead, the Cowboys are the only team with a winning record Philadelphia will face before a week 11 matchup with the Packers. |
2 | 2 | ![]() |
3-1 | Buffalo is first in the NFL with a +53 point differential. The schedule does not ease up, with games against the Chiefs and Packers coming up. |
3 | 4 | ![]() |
3-1 | Kansas City’s bounce back win seemed to confirm my theory that they simply overlooked the Indianapolis Colts Week 3. They will be just fine. |
4 | 3 | ![]() |
3-1 | The Packers have not looked particularly impressive, but sit at 3-1 regardless. Aaron Jones is averaging an absurd 6.8 yards per rush. Perhaps get that man more touches? |
5 | 5 | ![]() |
3-1 | Man, being a Dolphins fan is a constant kick in the nutsack. My team cannot even start 3-1 without a huge controversy surrounding it. I sincerely hope Mike McDaniels did not purposefully put Tua Tagovailoa in harms way, because I really like the guy. |
6 | 6 | ![]() |
2-2 | What was John Harbaugh thinking? I cannot fathom why he thought it was a good idea to pass on a late field goal and try for a touchdown. Sure, the Bills offense is great, but he basically gave Buffalo a win. The Ravens should absolutely be 4-0 right now, but things have not gone quite right yet. |
7 | 7 | ![]() |
2-2 | The Tampa Bay defense deserves a mulligan. They have been tremendous all year, but simply ran into the Patrick Mahomes juggernaut. Things should get back on track with upcoming games against the Falcons, Panthers and Steelers. More concerning is the endless run of injuries to the offensive skill players. |
8 | 12 | ![]() |
3-1 | Remember a few years ago when Dallas had perhaps the worst defense of all time? What a turnaround. That unit is winning games weekly. It would not be hyperbole to say that Micah Persons is already a top five defender in football. |
9 | 10 | ![]() |
3-1 | Other than a week one blowout win over the Packers, nothing about the Vikings has seemed all that impressive, but they sit at 3-1 anyway. The schedule definitely sets up nicely for 10 or 11 wins. |
10 | 9 | ![]() |
2-2 | Trevor Lawrence reverted to 2021 form, tossing interceptions, making poor decisions and fumbling the ball every other play. Jacksonville has still been impressive overall, and will look to bounce back against the hapless Texans. |
11 | 13 | ![]() |
2-2 | Sure, it was against the Texans, but Justin Herbert and company shook off a terrible performance against the Jaguars and dominated. Injuries continue to mount, as Rashawn Slater is now out for the season. |
12 | 14 | ![]() |
2-2 | I may have the Bengals rated a bit low. After back to back very impressive wins, they look like a playoff team once again. The offensive line needs to stop up, however, if they want Joe Burrow to make it through the season intact. |
13 | 19 | ![]() |
2-2 | The Niners defense is something special, but the Trey Lance injury was a shame. It would have been nice to see what the offense could have evolved into. As it stands now, it will struggle to keep up most weeks. |
14 | 15 | ![]() |
3-1 | The Giants are easily the worst 3-1 team in football, but power rankings do not matter in real life, only the win/loss column. Saquon Barkley is an early dark horse MVP candidate. He has been completely carrying a brutal offense. |
15 | 8 | ![]() |
2-2 | It is officially time to panic in Los Angeles. The Rams offense has devolved into force feeding Cooper Kupp and hoping Matthew Stafford throws more touchdowns than interceptions (he hasn’t). |
16 | 11 | ![]() |
2-2 | The Browns have played four of the ten worst teams in the NFL, and only have a 2-2 record to show for it. Deshaun Watson will help, but this might be a lost season, and a relatively high draft pick for Houston, if Cleveland cannot do better. |
17 | 22 | ![]() |
1-3 | The Raiders were the best 0-3 team in football, playing very tough every game. They finally pulled out a win and DaVante Adams got his as well. |
18 | 16 | ![]() |
2-2 | Integrating Russell Wilson has definitely been a struggle, but the offense at least showed some signs of life against the Raiders. Of course, that came at the cost of Javonte Williams, who was lost for the year. |
19 | 27 | ![]() |
2-2 | The Titans are riding Derrick Henry for as far as he can carry him. The past two weeks, he has carried the ball 42 times for 199 yards and 2 touchdowns. He is the complete offense at this point. |
20 | 17 | ![]() |
1-3 | If there is one silver lining in New Orleans this year, it is the quick emergence of Chris Olave. He has quickly become the best receiver for the Saints. |
21 | 18 | ![]() |
1-3 | Oh my goodness. What a crazy season for the Detroit Lions. They have scored 140 points, 11 more than the second highest scoring team. They have given up 141 points, a staggering 26 more than the second worst team. If you like scoring, Detroit games are much watch. |
22 | 20 | ![]() |
1-3 | Give credit to Mike Tomlin for realizing Mitchell Trubisky was not going to be anything close to the answer, and turning to Kenny Pickett. He will not set the world on fire, but cannot be any worse. |
23 | 26 | ![]() |
2-2 | The only good thing I can say about the Cardinals, is they are 2-2, and 9 or 10 wins could be enough to win this division this year. There is not a lot to like about either side of the ball. |
24 | 28 | ![]() |
2-2 | Geno Smith has been way better than expected, taking full advantage of his talented wide receiver duo. The issue in Seattle is clearly the defense. |
25 | 29 | ![]() |
2-2 | Atlanta has been playing very hard, and actually has a +2 point differential on the season. I do think the lack of talent will eventually catch up to them, especially without Cordarrelle Patterson. |
26 | 21 | ![]() |
1-3 | Some guy named Bailey Zappe stood toe to toe with Aaron Rodgers in Green Bay. Amazing. The defense is not good, and they are next to face the Detroit Lions juggernaut. |
27 | 32 | ![]() |
2-2 | In a weird scheduling quirk, the Jets had to play AFC North teams during the first four weeks of the season, and came out of it at 2-2. New York seems to have hit it big with Garrett Wilson and Breece Hall in the draft. |
28 | 23 | ![]() |
1-3 | The Panthers have statistically the worst offense in the NFL. Baker Mayfield has been better (less worse) than Sam Darnold was in 2021, but that is not saying much. |
29 | 25 | ![]() |
1-2-1 | The stunning upset win over the Chiefs will likely be the highlight of the season for Indianapolis. Teams in the NFL do not often straight up tank, but this team could use some losses for a chance at CJ Stroud or Bryce Young. |
30 | 24 | ![]() |
2-2 | Khalil Herbert is the only bright spot for the most pathetic offense in the NFL. Justin Fields has not gotten much help personnel wise, but he continues to look lost. |
31 | 30 | ![]() |
1-3 | Stink out Loud for Stroud is on. No, that will not catch on. The Commanders seem to get worse by the week. |
32 | 32 | ![]() |
0-3-1 | I originally had Washington at 32, but I do not see a realistic way that the Texans win a game this year. It will probably happen, of course, and they have been close a couple of times, but this is clearly the least talented team in the NFL. |
