The crazy free agency period is dying down, and teams will start to turn their attention to the NFL Draft. Now is a good time for an extended mock draft. This one is going to be two rounds. Enjoy!
| Pick | Team | Player | Stats | Commentary |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | ![]() Chicago Bears |
QB Caleb Williams, USC – 6’1, 214 lbs | 266-388, 3633 yards, 30 TD, 5 INT | From CAR Chicago misplayed the Justin Fields situation, and ended up giving him away for nothing. That showed the world that the NFL just does not view Fields as an NFL starting quarterback. Caleb Williams is the easy selection here. The Bears are setting him up for immediate success, adding Gerald Everett, Keenan Allen and D’Andre Swift to the offense. |
| 2 | ![]() Washington Commanders |
QB Jayden Daniels, LSU – 6’4, 210 lbs | 236-327, 3812 yards, 40 TD, 4 INT | Let me start this out by saying I have serious reservations about Jayden Daniels. I doubt he is actually 210 pounds (he was listed as 185 at Arizona State), and he really only put things together as a fifth year senior on a loaded team. But the NFL is all about quarterbacks, and all of the terrible teams picking at the top of this draft need them. I think Daniels is a better fit for Washington, and more of a sure thing to at least be decent over Drake Maye, which gives him the advantage here. I would personally go Joe Alt here, but my mocks are always what I think teams are going to do, not what I would personally do. |
| 3 | ![]() New England Patriots |
QB Drake Maye, North Carolina – 6’4, 223 lbs | 269-425, 3608 yards, 24 TD, 9 INT | Drake Maye looks the part of a franchise quarterback, but he did not have a tremendous third year, and the track record of ACC quarterbacks, and redshirt sophomores, has not been great. I think New England should go another direction and build a terrible roster before throwing a quarterback in the mix, but it is awfully hard to pass on one if you need one. So I will go the route that every other mock has gone and put three quarterbacks at the top, even though I am not excited about it. |
| 4 | ![]() Arizona Cardinals |
WR Marvin Harrison Jr., Ohio State – 6’3, 209 lbs | 67 rec, 1211 yards, 14 TD | Easy choice here. Michael Wilson currently tops Arizona’s wide receiver depth chart. That is all you need to know. They will be tempted to trade back by teams eying JJ McCarthy, but if they stand pat, Marvin Harrison Jr. is the no doubt choice. Harrison Jr. is sitting out most of the pre-draft process, but I would not worry. He is a top five lock and he knows it. |
| 5 | ![]() Los Angeles Chargers |
WR Malik Nabers, LSU – 6’0, 200 lbs | 89 rec, 1569 yards, 14 TD | Any other draft year, Malik Nabers would be the top receiver in his class. He is the top route runner in this class, and has sure hands. He helped make Jayden Daniels a lot of money. Los Angeles has moved on from their long time wide receiver duo, and Quentin Johnston showed nothing as a rookie. This is easily the biggest need for the Chargers. |
| 6 | ![]() New York Giants |
WR Rome Odunze, Washington – 6’3, 212 lbs | 87 rec, 1553 yards, 13 TD | The Daniel Jones extension predictably backfired, and JJ McCarthy is definitely in play here. But will this regime want to punt a top six pick in 2024 for a guy who is not ready to contribute? The Giants will face pressure to win now, and Rome Odunze would be a gigantic help. The Giants skill positions lack serious talent. This would make three straight quarterbacks followed by three straight receivers. |
| 7 | ![]() Tennessee Titans |
OT Joe Alt, Notre Dame – 6’9, 321 lbs | N/A | Tennessee has done a good job of rebuilding the skill positions, but desperately need help along the offensive line. Thankfully Joe Alt is there for the taking. He is a monster at 6’9, and should immediately slide into the vacant left tackle position for the Titans. This is an amazing offensive line class, and Alt leads the way. |
| 8 | ![]() Atlanta Falcons |
OLB Dallas Turner, Alabama – 6’3, 247 lbs | 53 tackles, 10 sacks, 2 FF | This is another easy choice. Atlanta has done little to address a pass rush that ranked 21st in the NFL last year, and lost two starters. Dallas Turner is my top defensive prospect in this class. He is not quite Will Anderson Jr., but had 10 sacks and showed up strong and big at the combine. He should be an immediate contributor for the Falcons. |
| 9 | ![]() Chicago Bears |
DT Byron Murphy II, Texas – 6’1, 297 lbs | 29 tackles, 5 sacks | Byron Murphy II may be a slight reach here, but not really. He is clearly the top defensive line prospect in this class. A rare three down defensive tackle, he would provide pass rush and run defense for a young Chicago defensive line. |
| 10 | ![]() New York Jets |
OT Olumuyiwa Fashanu, Penn State – 6’6, 312 lbs | N/A | The Jets added both Tyron Smith and Morgan Moses to the offensive line, but neither of those guys can be considered long term options. Olu Fashanu did not capitalize on a tremendous sophomore season, but I still really like his potential as a long term starter. This would give him a chance to develop for a year before taking over for Smith in 2025. Teams do not usually take backups in the top ten, but Fashanu is a special talent. Plus, with Smith’s injury history, Fashanu may not be a backup for long. |
| 11 | ![]() Minnesota Vikings |
QB J.J. McCarthy, Michigan – 6’3, 219 lbs | 240-332, 2991 yards, 22 TD, 4 INT | JJ McCarthy will most likely be gone by this point, but I do not project trades in my mocks. Picking players is hard enough. The Vikings recently added a second first round pick, adding fuel to the fire that they will trade up, most likely for McCarthy. He showed up bigger than expected at the combine and put on a good performance, basically stamping his ticket to the top ten. Too many teams need quarterbacks, with Minnesota now at the top of the list. |
| 12 | ![]() Denver Broncos |
TE Brock Bowers, Georgia – 6’3, 243 lbs | 56 rec, 714 yards, 6 TD | I do not love this selection, but Denver needs talent all over the roster, and Brock Bowers is the best player available. It is not like the Broncos do not need skill position help, especially after trading Jerry Jeudy. I cannot realistically mock a quarterback here. Bowers is basically a 240 pound receiver and would be a good help for whatever poor sap Denver trots out behind center in 2024. |
| 13 | ![]() Las Vegas Raiders |
OT JC Latham, Alabama – 6’6, 342 lbs | N/A | Gardner Minshew II is not great, but should be good enough to hold down the fort for a year or two while the Raiders try to find a long term answer behind center. That will not be with this pick, so they go with a road grating right tackle in JC Latham. The offensive line is a mess. |
| 14 | ![]() New Orleans Saints |
OT Taliese Fuaga, Oregon State – 6’6, 324 lbs | N/A | The Saints once vaunted offensive line has been gutted by free agency losses and draft busts. Trevor Penning is not the answer at left tackle. Taliese Fuaga may be a better fit at right tackle or guard, but would be an upgrade anywhere the Saints plug him in at, especially as a run blocker. |
| 15 | ![]() Indianapolis Colts |
CB Terrion Arnold, Alabama – 6’0, 189 lbs | 63 tackles, 5 INT, 1 sack, 1 FF | The Colts have one of the more balanced rosters in the NFL, but secondary help is needed. Terrion Arnold is a former safety and it shows in his tackle numbers. On top of that, he racked up 5 interceptions, showing a true two way game at cornerback. Julius Brents and Kenny Moore are solid CB2 and 3’s, but this team needs an alpha in the secondary. |
| 16 | ![]() Seattle Seahawks |
DE Jared Verse, Florida State – 6’4, 254 lbs | 41 tackles, 9 sacks, 1 FF | The Seahawks have a few decent pass rushers on the roster, but no one that would really make an opposing quarterback sweat. Jared Verse took a small step back as a junior, but is still a solid first round prospect. He racked up 18 sacks during his two years at Florida State. |
| 17 | ![]() Jacksonville Jaguars |
WR Brian Thomas Jr., LSU – 6’3, 209 lbs | 68 rec, 1177 yards, 17 TD | The Jaguars ended 2023 on a very sour note, and Trevor Lawrence has been slower to develop than hoped. Gabe Davis does not make up for the loss of Calvin Ridley, and the Jaguars need to surround Lawrence with more talent. Brian Thomas Jr. may have played second fiddle to Malik Nabers at LSU, but he caught 68 passes and 17 touchdowns, showing he’s more than capable of being the man. |
| 18 | ![]() Cincinnati Bengals |
CB Quinyon Mitchell, Toledo – 6’0, 195 lbs | 41 tackles, 1 INT | The Bengals signed former Patriot Trent Brown, which makes offensive tackle less of a dire need. Cincinnati has been searching for a CB1 for years, and Quinyon Mitchell looks the part. He is easily the best non-Power 5 prospect in this class, and could be the first cornerback taken. |
| 19 | ![]() Los Angeles Rams |
DT Jer’Zhan Newton, Illinois – 6’2, 304 lbs | 52 tackles, 7.5 sacks, 1 FF | Future Hallof Fame defensive lineman Aaron Donald recently retired, opening up a monster hole along the defefnsive line. Obviously, no one player is going to come close to replacing him, but Jer’Zhan Newton could be an adequate fill in as an agile 300 pound 3-4 end with pass rushing ability. |
| 20 | ![]() Pittsburgh Steelers |
CB Kool-Aid McKinstry, Alabama – 6’1, 195 lbs | 32 tackles | Joey Porter Jr. was a second round steal, but the Steelers still need cornerback help. Kool-Aid McKinstry was overshadowed by Terrion Arnold as an Alabama junior, but is a solid man coerage guy who was hardly tested in college. |
| 21 | ![]() Miami Dolphins |
OG Troy Fautanu, Washington – 6’4, 317 lbs | N/A | The Dolphins were able to resign Isaiah Wynn, but the loss of Robert Hunt will be felt. There is not a replacement on the roster. Troy Fautanu could easily be gone by this point and would be a steal for the Dolphins. He played left tackle during his junior year at Washington but is a classic plug-and-play option at guard. |
| 22 | ![]() Philadelphia Eagles |
CB Nate Wiggins, Clemson – 6’1, 173 lbs | 28 tackles, 2 INT, 1 sack | Darius Slay and James Bradberry remain solid starters, but both are over 30 years old. It never hurts to have a plethora of skilled cornerbacks. Nate Wiggins is so thin, but he had a blazing 40 yard dash time and showed big play ability at Clemson. |
| 23 | ![]() Minnesota Vikings |
SS Cooper DeJean, Iowa – 6’1, 203 lbs | 41 tackles, 2 INT | From CLE This new Minnesota pick could be used as additional ammunition to trade up, but I do not predict trades. Cooper DeJean has experience at corner and safety, but I like him as a Minkah Fitzpatrick-like safety who can slide outside when needed. Either way, he would help out a weak Minnesota secondary. |
| 24 | ![]() Dallas Cowboys |
C Graham Barton, Duke – 6’5, 313 lbs | N/A | Dallas lost two starting offensive lineman in free agency and did nothing to replace them. Fortunately, this draft is flush with quality offensive lineman, even late in the first round. Graham Barton played tackle at Duke, but projects as a center in the NFL. He could start right away, replacing Tyler Biadasz. |
| 25 | ![]() Green Bay Packers |
OT Tyler Guyton, Oklahoma – 6’7, 327 lbs | N/A | Other than Jordan Love in 2020, the Packers have used a first round pick on defense every year for the past decade plus. They could easily go that direction again, but protecting their new franchise quarterback needs to be a priority. Tyler Guyton is a project, but has the requisite size and skills to be a solid left tackle at the NFL level. |
| 26 | ![]() Tampa Bay Buccaneers |
OLB Laiatu Latu, UCLA – 6’5, 259 lbs | 49 tackles, 13 sacks, 2 INT | The Buccaneers lost Shaq Barrett in free agency and struggled to generate a solid pass rush even when he was on the roster. Laiatu Latu has a checkered injury past and is not the best athlete, but 23.5 sacks the past two years speaks for itself. He is a steal this late in the first round. |
| 27 | ![]() Arizona Cardinals |
C Jackson Powers-Johnson, Oregon – 6’3, 328 lbs | N/A | The Cardinals have the least talented roster in the NFL. Pick a position and they could use an upgrade. Jackson Powers-Johnson is destined for the first round. He is a plug and play option at any interior position, and Arizona has journeymen at both guard and center. |
| 28 | ![]() Buffalo Bills |
WR Xavier Worthy, Texas – 5’11, 165 lbs | 75 rec, 1014 yards, 5 TD | Xavier Worthy has aced the pre-draft process. First, he ran the fastest recorded 40 yard dash time in combine history, then he caught everything thrown at him during the Longhorns Pro Day. He is small and struggled with drops a bit at Texas, but could make a fantastic counterpart for a Bills team searching for consistency opposite Stefon Diggs. |
| 29 | ![]() Detroit Lions |
DE Chop Robinson, Penn State – 6’3, 254 lbs | 15 tackles, 4 sacks | We kept waiting for Chop Robinson to put it all together and dominate at Penn State, but that never quite happened. The talent is there, however, for Robinson to be a double digit sack-per-year guy in the NFL. The Lions have a deep roster and this is a good spot in the draft to take a swing. |
| 30 | ![]() Baltimore Ravens |
OT Amarius Mims, Georgia – 6’8, 340 lbs | N/A | As usual, Baltimore sits back and watches an elite talent fall into its lap. Amarius Mims is as talented as any offensive lineman in this class. He lacks experience and consistency, which is why he is available here. He has the potential to be a massive right tackle who is a devastating blocker. Even as two year project, he did not allow a single sack at Georgia. |
| 31 | ![]() San Francisco 49ers |
OT Kingsley Suamataia, BYU – 6’5, 326 lbs | N/A | The 49ers have a deep roster, but there are some weak spots. Offensive line could use some young reinforcements. Trent Williams is still very good, but he will be 36 years old. Colton McKivitz gave up 11 sacks on the other side. Kingsley Suamataia might have been a top 20 pick had he stayed one more year at BYU. He chose to enter the draft with only two years of playing experience, but with proper development, he could be a future starter. The 49ers can afford to be patient with him. |
| 32 | ![]() Kansas City Chiefs |
WR Adonai Mitchell, Texas – 6’2, 205 lbs | 55 rec, 845 yards, 11 TD | Patrick Mahomes showed that he can basically get it done on his own, but why make him prove that once again in 2024? The Chiefs added Marquise Brown in free agency, but that is not nearly enough. Like fellow Longhorn Xavier Worthy, Adonai Mitchell owned the combine. With his mix of size and strength, he has long term starter potential. |
